NVLSP

Training

From the very beginning, one of NVLSP’s primary missions has been to train advocates in veterans law so that they can efficiently help veterans secure benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The goal of these trainings is to teach advocates how to obtain the correct amount of VA benefits for deserving veterans (and their family members) at the earliest possible time.

During the last 40 years, we have conducted training programs for groups of non-attorney advocates as well as groups of attorneys.

On a continuing basis, NVLSP trains the service officers of several of the largest state departments of veterans affairs. NVLSP has also conducted training for national veterans service organizations such as The American Legion,  Vietnam Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, AMVETS and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

We have also developed and conducted training programs for attorneys in organizations including the Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program, The Legal Services Corporation, The National Legal Aid and Defender Association, The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and state bar associations.

Webinars

NVLSP offers continuous live and recorded training and professional development programs for veterans service officers (VSOs), claims agents, and attorneys who are accredited to represent veterans before the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Our webinar series provides a new 90-minute minute training on each of 10 different topics in veterans law every year. The webinars are approved for continuing legal education (CLE) credit by the Virginia State Bar and can be used to satisfy the attorney and claims agent CLE requirements for maintaining accreditation by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

In-Person Training Sessions

NVLSP offers in-person training in veterans law for either lay advocates and attorneys. We willl work with you to customize a training program that meets the needs of your organization. We are available to conduct one-day to four-day training sessions.

NVLSP is available for in-person training sessions for organizations such as bar associations, law firms, corporate legal departments and national, state and county veterans service organizations.  NVLSP can also provide regular testing for accreditation maintenance.
