Job Title: Litigation Intake Specialist

Position Type:  Part -Time – In-Office Position

Background: The National Veterans Legal Services Program (NVLSP) is a high-impact national nonprofit veterans service organization based in Arlington, VA. Established in 1981, NVLSP's mission is to ensure that the government delivers to our nation’s 18 million veterans and active duty personnel the benefits to which they are entitled due to the disabilities that resulted from their military service. NVLSP’s Litigation Services Program focuses on NVLSP’s class actions and other impact litigation and advocacy projects. This includes our Burn Pits Claims Assistance Program, ongoing work to ensure that the Department of Veterans Affairs provides Vietnam veterans and their survivors compensation for Agent Orange-related diseases under the consent decree in Nehmer v. U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and other ongoing representation to current and former members of our class actions.

General Summary: NVLSP seeks a part-time intake specialist and in-office assistant to serve as the initial contact between veterans and NVLSP attorneys. The intake specialist is responsible for the following: determining program eligibility; sending out intake packets and letters to clients and class members; meticulously maintaining the client database; reviewing submitted client documentation; providing status updates; scanning, combining, and uploading client records and documentation; updating various spreadsheets and data collection; and working closely with the Litigation Services Program attorneys on other administrative projects. The position requires working part-time in our office just blocks from the Rosslyn Virginia metro station.

Duties/Responsibilities: The successful candidate will have exceptional organization skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple deadline-driven tasks while maintaining a professional and pleasant demeanor.

Education and Job Experience Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree or Paralegal Certificate from accredited institution or program
• 2 to 5 years paralegal or comparable experience
• Excellent proofreading and writing skills
• Experience with client contact via phone and email
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and Adobe Acrobat
• Ability to maintain records of ongoing matters in paper and electronically
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously under constant deadlines
• Strong organizational, problem solving, and communication skills
• Experience with veterans’ law, disability law, and/or military service appreciated

Salary and Benefits: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience ($20 - $22 per hour). This is a part-time position, 20 hours per week.
