Academy of United States Veterans Presents the Veterans Community Award to NVLSP at Third Annual Veterans Awards

WASHINGTON: The Academy of United States Veterans (AUSV) is presenting the National Veterans Legal Services Program (NVLSP) with the Veterans Community Award at the third annual Veterans Awards (VETTYS) on January 20th in Washington, DC. The Veterans Community Award is given to an organization or individual that connects and unites the Veterans community as a whole and enhances the lives of veterans and their families while doing so.
This year’s event, to be held at the Mayflower Hotel, and co-hosted by the Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes, is in partnership with Paralyzed Veterans of America, a congressionally chartered service, serving veterans of the armed forces who have experienced spinal cord injury or dysfunction. Presenting sponsor of the event is the Disabled American Veterans.
Emceed by CNN anchor and chief Washington correspondent Jake Tapper, the annual Veterans Awards celebrate awardees conferred by the Academy’s voting members. The VETTYS recognize individuals and organizations that exhibit consistent and extraordinary qualities of public service or exemplary advocacy efforts and demonstrate exceptional contributions or outstanding service to the Veterans community.
“We’re pleased and appreciative to receive this distinctive award from the AUSV, as it reflects the significance of our mission to ensure that our nation honors its commitment to its 22 million veterans and active duty personnel by working to make certain they receive the federal benefits they have earned through their military service to our country,” said Bart Stichman, executive director of NVLSP. “The Veterans Awards provide an important platform to recognize significant veterans’ projects and programs and celebrate those dedicated to helping the men and women that serve in our military. We are honored to be a part of this celebration.”
Other awards to be presented by the AUSV include the Veterans Education Award, recognizing an institution or organization that has surpassed expectations in its ability to provide high-level education opportunities to military members; the Veterans Mental Health Award, for making a significant difference in the lives of veterans whose wounds cannot be seen; the Veterans Employment Award, for providing a structured and productive employment plan to veterans as they assimilate back into civilian life; the Veterans Leadership Award, presented to an influential member of the veterans community that has demonstrated outstanding leadership potential and served as a role-model to remaining community members; and a Veterans Choice Award, presented to a prominent individual in the veterans community recognized for their exceptional work and service to veterans.
Presenters at the event include former United States Army Green Beret and NFL player, Nate Boyer; Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning actress Shohreh Aghdashloo; and the cast of NBC’s “The Brave,” Anne Heche, Mike Vogel and Sofia Pernas; and star of CBS’s “Valor,” Matt Barr.
With the support of its sponsors and attendees, each year the AUSV dedicates fifty percent of the event’s profits to a cause they believe is most pertinent to promoting the prosperity of our nation and well-being of its citizens. This year, the AUSV will donate a portion of the event profits to helping restore the livelihoods of fellow U.S. citizens who have been affected by the devastation of hurricanes in 2017.
