WASHINGTON – National Veterans Legal Services Program’s (NVLSP) Row for Warriors 2018, a competitive Dragon Boat rowing event, achieved a new high in participation with approximately 130 volunteers.

“We are delighted with the enthusiasm and generosity that our supporters demonstrated this year, “said Bart Stichman, executive director of NVLSP. “It is gratifying to see Row for Warriors grow every year. This event will go a long way to help build awareness of NVLSP and the work we do to help veterans secure the benefits they are due.”

Row for Warriors is the signature event of The Advisory Council for NVLSP. The dragon boat race helps to raise funds and awareness of NVLSP’s mission to ensure our nation’s active duty personnel and veterans receive the disability benefits to which they are entitled. Row for Warriors was part of the Annual Capital Dragon Boat Regatta at The Wharf.

Law firms and companies that sponsored and participated in the event included Berkeley Research Group, LLC; Covington & Burling LLP; DLA Piper; Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner LLP; Latham & Watkins LLP; Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP; Sidley Austin LLP; and White & Case LLP.

For the past 38 years, NVLSP has fought tirelessly to help veterans claim their rightful benefits and reform the VA benefits system. NVLSP was pivotal in securing the passage of critical legislation which allows veterans to appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. NVLSP has also represented veterans in lawsuits that compelled enforcement of the law where the VA or other military services denied benefits to veterans in violation of the law.  NVLSP’s success in these lawsuits has resulted in more than $5.2 billion dollars being awarded in disability and death benefits to hundreds of thousands of veterans and their survivors.
