NVLSP Statement on NASDVA 2023 Annual Training Conference

The National Veterans Legal Services Program (NVLSP) issued the following statement on the National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs (NASDVA) 2023 Annual Training Conference.

“We applaud the leadership and dedication of NASDVA in hosting the 2023 Annual Training Conference and honoring the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War,” said NVLSP Executive Director Paul Wright. “Advancing education and paying homage to Vietnam veterans, including many NASDVA leaders who served, underscores the exceptional commitment and stewardship that the organization imbues in its activities. We appreciate the opportunity to participate in this conference and share our expertise and resources to support the efforts of state agencies who work tirelessly to ensure that veterans, of all wars, receive the benefits they have earned.”

Since NVLSP’s inception over 41 years ago, we have worked unremittingly to ensure our nation honors its commitment to its veterans and active duty personnel by ensuring they have the benefits they have earned through their service to our country.  NVLSP’s landmark 1986 case Nehmer v. U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs underscores our commitment to Vietnam veterans and their families who suffered devastating effects from toxic exposure to Agent Orange. As a result of the Nehmer consent decree, over the last three decades, the VA has now paid an aggregate of more than $4.9 billion in retroactive disability and death benefits to hundreds of thousands of Vietnam veterans and their surviving family members.  We are honored to continue serving these and all of America’s veterans and their families.
